A leisurely stroll around the Manchester

One of the benefits of the Christmas holiday is that you can take a short journey as you please. As a new joiner in Manchester, I preferred a leisurely stroll in the bustling city centre. So I randomly chose a seemingly well-known scenic spot, mustered some courage and expectation to explore the unknown, moved forward leisurely, and enjoyed the surprises that lay ahead.

Manchester is known for its wealth of museums. Then I chose the People's History Museum as the first stop.

At first glance, the exterior of the building is smaller than I expected. However, as soon as I stepped inside, I was greeted by a 3-floor high wall that left me in awe. A timeline and a motto are articulated on the wall: 'There have always been ideas worth fighting for.'

I didn't expect something like this. At that time, strikes had been quite frequent due to roaring inflation. My friend and I sometimes murmured about the inconvenience it had brought us. However, after seeing the motto, it dawned on me that I shouldn't take modern human rights for granted. I felt grateful to be living in a society where human rights prevail, and I couldn't help but hope for a brighter future where democracy could flourish even further.

There are also lots of historical exhibitions in the museum. Unfortunately, due to the lack of relative background, I just roughly went through them. I may come back and enjoy them again.

Strolling out of the museum, what awaited me was a breathtaking twilight. Roaming in the canals, basking in the afterglow of the setting sun, I was half impressed and half grateful. I have always loved these kinds of beautiful encounters.
